UPDATE: 2/15/2012I am updating my review (original review is below). As of this writing, I am searching for a new cookie press. This one has served me well... for brief 5-year period of time. In the time that I was able to use it, it worked great. However, the plastic handle has stress cracks at the hinge, and the rachet no longer works properly, causing it to be very hard to press a cookie out. I will be looking for a more expensive all-metal press, and would not recommend this press for more than temporary/light use.Original Review (2/12/2007):This is an excellent cookie press!!! I just love it! After having to deal with a very difficult battery-operated one that just got tossed in the trash, I gave this one a try. Boy am I glad I did! It is not hard to press at all, and you get a perfect cookie every time with just one simple click of the lever. I made a batch of cookies 10 times faster than I could with my old finicky battery operated one. Who needs batteries when you can have this? It is very easy to operate (just follow the directions)! I used my old original cutout cookie recipe (but did not chill the dough), and they came out perfectly with this press.

I had my doubts about the plastic construction and really had my doubts about the plastic discs, but I paid less than $10 for it in the sale bin at my grocery store. I made my first batch of cookies with it the other day. It's perfect with the no-flour peanut butter cookie recipe and absolutely easy to use. I remember the old plunger style and how my hands used to get tired after a while. If you pack it carefully the dough doesn't have any voids at all. I want to try the recipes that came with it next and compare them, but even if it's most suited to my peanut butter cookies (the dough is light but does not spread as it bakes) it's worth the money.

My old metal screw press finally bit the dust and of course it is Spritz time so while picking up some last minute items I saw this at Meijer on sale - hey $13.00 worth a try. Brought it home made the recipe provided and the cookies came out great - the dough was perfect just right follow the directions. Yes the plastic concerns me but it isn't cookie maker I'd use day in and day out. I didn't wash it in the dishwasher but rather by hand - I would be concerned that the plastic would warp - though I suppose top shelf would be fine.
