It really helps to make sure the dough is uniformly rolled into a log so when it is placed in the press there aren't too many air pockets while trying to press out the cookies. It does take some work to get the dough to form cookies, I found it took 2 pumps before uniform cookies came out of the press. Very easy to assemble/dis-assemble and clean.

This is a complete waste of money. It is comfortable to use and hold. It has a nice selection of shapes. It is light weight. It cleans up easily. Generally, I think this is a good brand. I made one batch of cookies with this and it worked great. Unfortunately, the internal part that pushes the dough out is made of cheap, flimsy plastic, and it cracked and split in two the second time I used it. As a result, the entire thing was completely useless as the dough would not come out uniformly, instead pushing UP through the broken plastic. I have never bought any kitchen item that was such an utter piece of junk. I have used at least four other cookie presses during my life and this is the only one that was so poorly made. Don't waste your money.

This is not a quality cookie press. I had to press down so hard on the lever to get it to work that it broke right off in my hand. So frustrating! Not the relaxing Christmas cookie baking experience I was looking for. I think the presses with a trigger mechanism are better designed...also metal shape plates seem to work better. Ugh.
