Basically you mix the cookie dough according to the recipe, pick a shape for your cookies and fill the press with dough. You place the end of the press on the cookie sheet and turn the handle to express dough onto the sheet. Lift the press and move onto the next cookie. Quick Easy and Fun !! We had a Mirro cookie press growing up and I managed to find one for myself as an adult.Mine had a handle and it finally broke, leaving two holes in the side for the dough to seep out.I tried a new cookie gun type of press and hated it.
